Frequently Asked Questions

  • Spray foam is petroleum-based at its core. However, many manufacturers incorporate plant-derived oils as additives, up to roughly 5% in 2 lb foam and 10% in ½ lb foam, depending on the formula. All spray foam products are required to use zero-ozone-depleting blowing agents, and upcoming formulations will feature significantly reduced global warming potential. Ultimately, the greatest environmental advantage comes from the energy savings a well-insulated building provides over its lifetime.

  • Some manufacturers include soy oil as part of a bio-based additive blend, typically up to 5% in 2 lb foam or 10% in ½ lb foam. Many producers use a mix of non-edible plant sources such as soy, sugarcane, and castor oil rather than relying on any single ingredient.

  • The right thickness depends on your climate zone, local building code requirements, the building's intended use, and your budget. As a general guideline, we suggest two inches for basement applications, three inches on wood-framed walls and joists, four inches on roof decks, and two inches for steel-sided shops and garages.

  • The most accurate way is to schedule a walkthrough so we can assess the project in person. If you already have the square footage and dimensions of the area, we can provide a rough ballpark estimate over the phone or by email.

  • Any work within city limits that affects a building's vapour barrier typically requires a permit. Garages, agricultural buildings, and similar structures may be subject to different rules. We recommend confirming with your local inspection authority, and we have all the necessary documentation on hand to support your permit application.

  • Yes. Occupants should not be present while spraying is underway. For larger projects, building code requires the space to be vacated for up to 24 hours to allow off-gassing to clear. Think of it like automotive painting: the process requires protective conditions, but once the product has fully cured, it is completely safe. Our installers are trained professionals who use appropriate protective gear throughout the job.

  • Project timelines vary based on scope and complexity. Joist end work might take one to two hours, while a full basement could run four hours or more. Whole-home installations may span two or more days. Large commercial projects, like our work at Mosaic Stadium, can involve multiple visits over an extended period.

  • Our rigs are equipped with up to 200 feet of hose. To get the best results, we prefer to minimize how much hose is laid out, so clearing a path to a nearby door or window is helpful. In most situations, parking at the street is sufficient.

  • Our chemicals must stay above 40°C to react properly. Once outdoor temperatures drop to around -15°C, we generally hold off on scheduling jobs. If the building is well-heated and we can get the equipment close enough, we may be able to work in slightly colder conditions.
Heat can also be a limiting factor. Our crews wear non-breathable protective suits, and extreme heat can both affect worker safety and interfere with proper product mixing.

  • Please ensure there is adequate space to park a large step van or truck-and-trailer setup as close to the building as possible. The work area should be cleared of personal belongings, tools, and any other items, with at least four feet of open space along all walls and unobstructed access to ceiling areas. We will need to move in and out of the space regularly. Depending on the project, the furnace may need to be shut off and windows opened for ventilation.

  • No. All CCMC-certified spray foam products meet vapour barrier requirements at a minimum thickness of 50 mm (two inches), so no additional barrier is necessary.

  • It depends on the project. For new builds, we recommend getting a quote at the design stage so foam costs can be factored into your budget, other trades can plan accordingly, and permit documentation can be prepared. For smaller projects like basement walls, joist ends, or garages, you can reach out closer to when the work is needed. We generally ask for five to ten days of lead time depending on the season and our current schedule.

  • Yes. We are certified at the company level to source and purchase foam through our suppliers, and we have multiple certified installers on our team. We are also approved by the City of Regina to perform spray foam installations within their jurisdiction.
